5th Graders Learn the Virginia Reel Dance!
Comments from 5th Graders:
I saw lots of 5th graders dancing and having fun! I heard people laughing and music and the caller talking. My favorite part was the reel which was like peeling a huge banana.
-Chase Borkowski
Ms. Andrews- Thank you for teaching us the Virginia Reel.
-Michael Krynicky
- I like the bridge that the leaders made
- It went faster every time we did it
- the music was fast
-Ryan Kuipers
I liked that we got to pick our partner. I also liked how we all got to be the head couple. And I liked the Do-See-Do.
-Elizabeth Graves
It was fun doing the cast off (banana peel) and Ms. Andrews made it fun and made the steps easy. My partner was Emily and we had a blast together. I wish we did the dance all day.
-Lauren Price
What I liked about the Virginia Reel was that everybody got to do it and it was really fun too! I heard a lot of people having fun and laughing too! I also saw that people doing it right and enjoying it SO MUCH!
-Jordan Jones

I love the Virginia Reel! It was so great to be able to dance with friends and even teachers. I got a little nervous when it was my turn to be the head couple but it was so much fun!
-Kyla Miller
The Virginia Reel is a very cool dance! It took some time but once you get going it’s hard to stop! I think it was very nice of Ms. Andrews to come and teach us an old fashion dance and I hope we can have her again I also think that everyone should at least try this dance. It is very exciting!

6th GRADE NEWS
Mrs. Payne's 6th grade IDS class decided to create their own
version of American Idol. Initially it was meant for their eyes
only, but when Mrs. Bender heard about what the students were
doing she thought the skit would be a nice addition to the band
concert. The students created their own script and worked for a
few weeks to prepare and in the end their hard work paid off.
All of the students participated at some level, those students
who were unable to attend, painted the backdrop and gave tips to
their classmates on how to improve their roles. The cast
included: Nikki Beckman as Paula, Sarah Stygar as Randy, Trevor
Kiel as Simon and Cameron Bredice as Ryan. The following
students sang: Megan Hildebrandt, Ricky Armstrong, Marissa
Brooks, Alysa Rhyne, and Cameron Bredice. Backdrop created by
Lexie Charleston, Jay Lowry, Payal Patel, Puja Patel, Jessilyn
Albanelli, and Brandi Watkins.

GRAND MERE FIELD TRIP
On Thursday, June 5th the 6th grade took a trip to Grand Mere State park for a nature hike with naturalist from Sarett Nature Center. They also went kayaking, canoeing on a voyager style canoe, and pond studying at North Lake.

RMS 7th GRADERS FEATURED IN TIME MAGAZINE!
As a supplement to the seventh grade environmental unit Mr.
Crowder from Signature Automotive Group came in and did a presentation
about alternative fossil fuels and Hybrid technology. He
brought in a Hybrid vehicle and allowed students to look at the
engine, batteries, inside, etc. of the vehicle.
For the second year in a row Signature Automotive Group received the Presidents
Award from TIME Magazine. The President’s Award pays homage to Toyota dealerships throughout the U.S. that achieve high standards of performance in all facets of the automotive dealer profession, including vehicle and parts sales, service and customer satisfaction.
Signature Automotive Group was asked what they give back
to the community. Visiting schools is a part of what Signature Automotive
gives back to it's community.
TIME Magazine took pictures of Mrs. Rantz, Mr. Gene Moon, owner of Signature Toyota, Mr. Bill Crowder, General Manager of Signature Toyota, and several RMS students with a Prius Hybrid Toyota in front of our school. Check out the article in TIME Magazine in a future edition.

Students’ 1st Credit Union!
The Students’ 1st Credit Union branch at RMS had another good year. We will reopen September 18th on Thursday mornings at the same time (7:20- 7:40) and place. Although the total deposits and amount saved was down significantly from previous years, the dedicated savers at the school did manage to save over $ 1600 during the year. We certainly hope we will have many new savers join the group next year and start building the habits that will pay off years down the road.
If you wish to continue saving during the summer or need access to your funds, you can visit any Berrien Teachers Credit Union branch office in St. Joseph, Berrien Springs, Niles, Coloma, Dowagiac, or South Haven. For hours and directions to the branches, please visit our web site at www.btcu.com.
For more information about the Students’ 1st CU program, please contact me at 983-6357 ext. 2730. Hope everyone has a wonderful summer break. See you next fall.
