2010-2011 Scholarships

Wendy's High School Heisman

• Scholarship Details: Honors students who excel in academics, athletics, and student leadership.

• Eligibility Criteria:

• At least a "B" average and participate in at least one school-sponsored sport.

• Deadline: October 3, 2010

2011 Prudential Spirit of Community Award

• Scholarship Details: The award recognizes students who have demonstrated exemplary community service and gives them the opportunity to receive scholarships from $1000 to $5000.

• Eligibility Criteria:

• A student who is in grades 5-12 as of November 1st.

• A student who has engaged in a volunteer activity that occurred at least in part after September 1, 2009.

• A student who completes an online application and submits it to a school principal or the head of an officially designated local organization by November 1, 2010.

• Deadline: November 1, 2010

The scholarships listed below were posted for the Class of 2010.  Many scholarships are offered on an annual basis.  As they become available, I will list them under the 2010-2011 Scholarships, which is above.  But, right now, they are only posted below to give you an idea of possible scholarships and their deadlines for this upcoming year.

2009-2010 Scholarships

Coca-Cola Scholars

• Scholarship Details: 50 students will receive awards of $20,000 and 200 students will receive awards of $10,000.

Southwestern Michigan College Scholarships

• Scholarship Details: An assortment of scholarships are available.  Obtain a scholarship application from the guidance office to see the variety of scholarships.

• Eligibility Criteria:

• Attend Southwestern Michigan College.

• Be a graduating senior.

• Deadline: December 11, 2009

AXA Achievement Scholarship

• Scholarship Details: 52 students will be awarded $10000 national scholarships and 20 recipients will be awarded $15000 scholarships.

MAB Foundation High School Broadcast Scholarship Program

• Scholarship Details: One-time scholarship award is $500.

• Eligibility Criteria:

• A Michigan High School senior with an accumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

• A Michigan resident.

• Accepted for enrollment in a two or four year Michigan college, university or trade school.

• Planning to enroll in a full-time, undergraduate course of study in a broadcast-related field.

• Currently working in a broadcast-related job or with some type of broadcast-related experience.

• Exhibiting professional promise within the broadcast industry.

NALS Michigan Scholarship Award

• Scholarship Details: One-time scholarship award of $1000.

• Eligibility Criteria:

• A Michigan High School senior with an accumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

• Will pursue a degree in the legal field.

• Deadline: January 15, 2010

KFC Colonel's Scholars

• Scholarship Details: $20,000 scholarships will be awarded.

• Eligibility Criteria:

• Graduate in 2010.

• Maintain a high school gpa of 2.75 or higher.

• Enroll in a public, in-state college or university.
• Pursue a bachelor's degree.
• A U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

• Deadline: February 10, 2010.  The application is available from Dec. 1st-Feb. 10th.

Michigan Education Association Scholarship

• Scholarship Details: The number and amount of scholarships for 2009 has not been determined.

• Eligibility Criteria:

• Graduate of a Michigan public high school.

• Will attend a Michigan public community/junior college, a four-year degree-granting institution, or a vocational training institution that grants a degree, certification or license.  The following private institutions are also eligible: Adrian College, Albion College, Baker College-Flint/Owosso, Davenport University-Eastern Region Campus, University of Detroit-Mercy, Finlandia University, and Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University.

• Must be an undergraduate student.

Michigan Society of Professional Engineers

• Scholarship Details: Scholarships awarded to graduating seniors pursuing engineering degrees.

• Eligibility Criteria:

• GPA, ACT Score, Activities, Honors, Essay, and Supplemental Credits.

• Deadline: February 15, 2010 (Application must be mailed to the Blossomland Chapter by this date.)

• Scholarship Details: $1000 scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors.

Lake Michigan College Scholarships

• Scholarship Details: Two $500 scholarships will be awarded.

Western Michigan University Printing and Graphic Arts Scholarships

• Scholarship Details: An assortment of scholarships are available.  Please see the link below for more information.

• Eligibility Criteria:

Western Star Lodge's Scholarship & Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation

• Scholarship Details: A $500 scholarship will be awarded through the local lodge and then, another $500 scholarship will be awarded through the state potentially.

Michigan Community Blood Centers Scholarship

• Scholarship Details: A $500 scholarship will be awarded.

• Eligibility Criteria:

• Be planning to enroll in a course of study at a college or technical school.

• Submit along with the application form a 250 word essay telling the story of a real person who received blood.

• Deadline: March 1, 2010

Leo Krziza and Esther Krziza-Condry Healthcare Education Scholarship

• Scholarship Details: Up to $5000 annually could be awarded to students who have an interest in pursuing a healthcare career.
• Eligibility Criteria:
• GPA of 2.75 or better.
• Preference given to students enrolled in: Southwestern Michigan College, Lake Michigan College, or Andrews University.
• Cass, Van Buren, or St. Joseph county residents.

Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation

• Scholarship Details: One $2000 scholarship

Heart of Cook Scholarship Program

• Scholarship Details: An award of $5000 paid in total to qualifying students over a four year period.
• Eligibility Criteria:

Galien Ambulance Service Health Careers Scholarship

• Scholarship Details: A $1000 scholarship awarded annually to a high school senior residing in the Galien School District regardless of their school of attendance, who is beginning a career path for a health-related profession in an effort to help provide health professionals in the Galien area.
• Eligibility Criteria:
  • Graduate of any high school in southwest lower Michigan who is currently a Galien resident.
  • Enrolled in a medical, dental, optometric, veterinary medicine, nursuing, therapy, or any and all educational programs aimed at providing health care services to humans or animals.
  • Interview required.

2010 $1000 Athena Scholarship from Women's Service League Benevolences

• Scholarship Details: A scholarship will be awarded.
• Eligibility Criteria:
• Demonstrate active and current service as a volunteer.
• Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 GPA scale.
• Be a graduating senior in good standing in the senior class.
• Verbalize personal and professional plans for the future in an interview.

Bridgman Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship

United Federal Credit Union Scholarship

• Scholarship Details: Three scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors who demonstrate community service and academic achievement.  One scholarship will be granted in the amount of $3000 and two scholarships will be granted in the amount of $1000 each.

• Be an active member of United Federal Credit Union.

• Be a graduating senior.

• Demonstrate a commitment to community services.

• Be accepted as an incoming freshman at an accredited college, trade school or university.

• Scholarship Details: One $1000 scholarship will be awarded.
• Eligibility Criteria:
  • Pursue an education in an agricultural related field.

Berrien Teachers Credit Union

• Scholarship Details: One $500 scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding high school senior.
• Eligibility Criteria:
  • Be a senior in high school.
  • Be a member of BTCU .
  • Be accepted at an accredited college, trade school, or university.
  • Demonstrate academic achievement and community/extracurricular involvement.
  • Must complete an application, a 300 to 400 word essay, and submit a recent transcript.
• Deadline: March 31, 2010: Applications should be mailed to BTCU, Attn: T.J. Kempf, PO Box 106, St. Joseph, MI 49085.

Twin City Players Scholarship: Brian Swiger Memorial Scholarship

• Scholarship Details: A $1000 scholarship will be awarded.
• Eligibility Criteria:
• Be a resident of Berrien County as a senior graduating from an accredited Berrien County high school.
• Have a 2.5 G.P.A.
• Deadline: March 31, 2010

Jeffrey Evan Demko Scholarship

• Scholarship Details: Two $1000 scholarships will be awarded.

Michigan Oil & Gas Producers Education Foundation

• Scholarship Details: $500 scholarships will be awarded to the top 5 applicants.

• Must be a high school senior with at least a 3.0 GPA.

• Must be accepted for enrollment at a Michigan university or community college.

• Must be pursuing a degree in an energy related field of study.

Michigan Retailers Association Scholarship Competition

• Scholarship Details: $1000 scholarships will be awarded.
• Eligibility Criteria:
  • The student or his/her parent must be employed at a business that is a member of MRA.
• Deadline: April 1, 2010

Michigan State Troopers Assistance Fund

• Scholarship Details: $1000 scholarships will be awarded.  The scholarships are awarded to students who are actively involved in extra curricular activities, community service, and jobs that make them productive members of their communities.
• Eligibility Criteria:
  • Must have a current grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
  • Completed copy of FAFSA form.
  • Completed application and an essay that outlines accomplishments and community involvement that demonstrates leadership and has a positive impact.

St. Joseph/Benton Harbor Rotary Track Scholarship

• Scholarship Details: Three $2000 scholarships will be awarded.
• Eligibility Criteria:
• Participation in track and field events or cross country.

• ACT college-bound percentile of 60 or better.
• Contribution to the community and school.

AAA Michigan’s Scholarship Program

• Scholarship Details: $1000 will be awarded to graduating seniors from Michigan public or private high schools.

• A strong record of participation in the community and extra-curricular activities.

• Scholarship Details: One $1000 scholarship.

• Be a graduating senior.

• Have an active role in their community as outlined in the application using principles of sustainable development.

Bridgman's 2010 Ed Miller Educational Football Scholarship

• Scholarship Details: One $750 scholarship will be awarded to a senior football player.

  • A dedicated athlete that plays with intensity, pride, and enthusiasm.

Cass County Conservation Club Scholarship

• Scholarship Details: A $1000 scholarship will be awarded.
• Eligibility Criteria:
  • Be a high school graduate or a graduating senior this year (2009).

  • Must pursue an area of study related to conservation.
  • Must agree to report their progress to the club at the end of the school year.

• Scholarship Details: A $1000 scholarship will be awarded.

NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation Scholarship

• Scholarship Details: 400 students who have demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit will be awarded $1000 scholarships.
• Eligibility Criteria:

• Entering freshman year of a two or four year college in 2008.
• Started his or her own business or participated in organizations such as DECA, Future Buiness Leaders of America (FBLA), Junior Achievement and The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, among other; or through other initiatives.
• Deadline: December 15, 2008.  Applications can only be filled out between October 15th-December 15th.

McKelvey Foundation Scholarships

• Scholarship Details: Scholarships awarded to entrepreneurs who have started their own businesses.

• Eligibility Criteria:

• Own or operate a business for at least 1 year.

• Have at least one paid employee.

• Deadline: January 25, 2009

National Co-Op Scholarship Program

• Scholarship Details: On behalf of ten NCCE Partner Colleges and Universities, the scholarship program awards 185 merit co-op scholarships of $6,000.

• Eligibility Criteria:

  • High school GPA of 3.5 or better.

  • Complete the application and type a one page essay describing why you have chosen to pursue a college cooperative education program.

  • Apply to a NCCE Partner College or University.

• Scholarship Details: One annual $3000 award to be applied to tuition expenses.
